Virtual Run
Have you always wanted to take part in a charity run, but never had the time, or have struggled to get a place on an event?
This May, why not take part in Brake's Virtual Run?
You can:
* run any distance
* run at your own pace
* run whenever it suits you
Taking part also helps us to raise money to help us continue our dedicated work preventing road death and injury and supporting others who have been bereaved or injured in road crashes.
What is a Virtual Run?
A Virtual Run is a race that can be run at any location, wherever you are in the world. You can walk, jog, run, use a treadmill or participate in any local race already happening. It's your race, so you can choose what distance you run and how fast you run it.
When is it taking place?
Brake's Virtual Run is taking place throughout May 2020. You can choose the day, complete your 'run' over several days, or take part at another time during the year.
How can I take part?
To sign up, simply register using our online form. We'll be in contact with more details.
The entry fee is just $15 for adults and $5 for under-12s and includes a free Virtual Run t-shirt. Once you have signed up, you'll receive an electronic fundraising pack.
Then complete your run. Let us know when you've done it and we'll send you a certificate to show you took part.
How far should I run?
This is your race, so you choose how far you run. We recommend that you have a distance in mind, for example 1km, 5km, 10km, or more. Why not give yourself a challenge - something to work towards?
Should I take photographs?
Yes please! We would love to see them and share Virtual Run photos on our social media pages. You can either send them to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or use the hashtag #BrakesVirtualRun.
If you are recording your run on your phone, why not screenshot your distance and time too?
Can I get sponsored?
Yes please! You will receive an electronic Virtual Run sponsorship form in your fundraising pack which you can download and print.
Also, you can create your own Virtual Run fundraising pages on:
Givealittle by clicking on 'Help Fundraise' and setting up your own page.
GoFundraise by creating an account and setting up your own fundraising page.
Where can I run?
Anywhere! You can complete your run:
* at the local park/reserve
* at your local gym on the treadmill
* as part of an organised local event
* wherever you want
It's your choice.
There are many 5k, 10k, half and full marathons taking place around New Zealand.

Please note participants will have to register for external races individually. Brake does not take responsibility for booking you onto these races.
Want something more local and less formal? Park Run organises weekly, free, pre-arranged races in local parks. Find your nearest one.
Can I run in memory of a loved one?
Yes. Throughout 2020 we are asking fundraisers to "do it for them" and take part in fundraisers in memory of their loved one.
You can also download a Brake template to attach to the back of your charity t-shirt when completing your run if you wish.
Can a group of us run together?
Yes! You can run with family, friends, work colleagues, it's up to you. When you confirm your run you can let us know about your group, and you can even set up a group Givealittle page.
