How do you raise funds? At first it can seem a bit daunting but it's really easy. Read on for top tips!
Create a fundraising webpage - This allows people to sponsor you online. It takes seconds to do it, and then you can email mates the link. The best way to collect funds with no effort! Brake can also email you a sponsorship form, so you can involve the whole community including anyone not internet savvy!
Local school - Ask your local school to hold a Bright Day, a mufti day with a difference! Why not offer to say a few words in assembly about why you are raising money for Brake and the extent of death and injury on roads.
Your work- Perhaps your work could sponsor you? Or could you organise a Bright Day? Or hold a car wash run by a team of your mates sporting sponges and buckets while dressed in silly costumes and playing pop music? More ideas here!
Your mates - Why not hold a knees up? From a BBQ in your back garden where everyone gives a gold coin donation in return for a sausage, to a full-on party in a local hall, you can raise pots for Brake while having fun. Read some more ideas here and our tips for organising big events here.
Your shops - Your local supermarket or other shops may be able to make a donation. Just ask for the manager and smile sweetly! They might be able to give you something off the shelves that you can then raffle. Why not ask your cycle shop to donate a bicycle helmet or a high visibility vest to keep the theme of road safety?
Local media - Ring local papers and radio stations and tell them what you're doing. Ask them to do a feature on you - it's a great way to appeal for extra funds, but also raise awareness of road safety.
Remember to shout loud and proud about what you're doing and why you're doing it! It's a great cause and people should support you and Brake!
